IAR Programs

What students learn at IAR

The current IAR website identifies eight core program areas.

Reading/Language Arts

IAR uses McGraw-Hill Wonders to build reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, language arts, and writing. The program is designed to nurture a love of reading while developing lifelong learning and critical-thinking habits in students.

Mathematics

The IAR mathematics program uses McGraw-Hill My Math and is organized around the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Instruction combines conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application, with real-world connections that build confidence and achievement.

Social Studies

IAR uses McGraw-Hill Networks and Discovering Our Past. The curriculum emphasizes rigorous, age-appropriate content, diverse perspectives, primary sources, and meaningful connections. Teachers use project-based and inquiry approaches to develop source analysis, evidence-based reasoning, and informed action.

Science

IAR uses McGraw-Hill Science to spark curiosity, questioning, critical thinking, and innovative ideas. Students engage in inquiry-based, hands-on investigations of real-world phenomena through a collaborative, evidence-based, project-oriented approach.

Quran and Islamic Studies

The program develops foundational Islamic knowledge and helps students practice that knowledge as confident American Muslim youth. Instruction includes aqeedah and beliefs, character and manners, worship, Islamic identity and purpose, du'as and etiquettes, drawing on Qur'an and tafseer, the Prophet's seerah, stories of the Companions, and other learning activities.

Arabic

IAR uses the I Learn Arabic curriculum. Instruction introduces students to the Arabic language and progressively develops listening, linguistic foundations, and sentence structure through a scaffolded sequence designed around the learner's development.

Art

IAR uses Meet the Masters, an interactive multimedia art curriculum that introduces students to art techniques and the work of major artists such as Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh.

Physical Education

Physical Education supports physical wellness and psychomotor development through varied activities. The program focuses on the knowledge and skills needed for regular, lifelong physical activity and healthy habits.
